Rickenbacker Model 4000

1959

This is one of the first generation of Rickenbacker basses, dated to early 1959. The body wings are birch, the neck is one-piece mahogany with mahogany wings and the fretboard is padauk. This early example of Rickenbacker’s foray into the world of electric bass guitars is the template on which the 4001/4003 line of basses would be built, with a few refinements from 1959 through the present day. Note the neck-through-body, magnetic horseshoe pickup, over-sized ½” diameter tuning pegs with “Elephant ear” tuning machines, cresting wave headstock, metal V/T knobs and tug bar. This example has its original bridge cover with built-in mute. Other than a headstock repair, this bass is in pristine condition. OHSC
