Rickenbacker model 4000

1962

This bass was made in 1962, a year of decreased productivity for Rickenbacker, as the factory was relocated from Los Angeles to Santa Ana in the middle of that year. This bass has the basic characteristics of the 1960-61 model 4000, with maple neck and body, walnut body wings, gold pickguard, metal V/T knobs and a single horseshoe pickup. The bass horn is fully developed from the shorter horns in the earlier years for this model. This example was among the last of the generation of the early 4000 basses, as 1963 would usher in major design revisions to the 4000/4001 series. All original with HSC.
